Spring is just around the corner and with spring comes the blooming of my favorite flower, the tulip! The Wooden Shoe Tulip Farm in Woodburn, Oregon is home to 40 acres of brilliantly colored tulips every spring. Starting in late March and continuing through the end April their annual Tulip Fest brings together fields of blooming tulips with fun family activities plus some absolutely fabulous photo opportunities. We visited for the first time last year and plan to make it an annual activity.
I recommend arriving early. Lines to enter the parking lot can get rather long mid-day plus with fewer people in the morning and softer lighting, you’ll have better photo taking opportunities.
They have food vendors on-site but they also allow picnics. We chose to bring a picnic lunch and just purchased small treats while we were there. This saved money and time as the food lines can get long.
They have several different ticket options, we chose the Family Car option which cost us $20. This price includes parking, access to the tulip fields, a hay-ride or tram-ride to the fields if you prefer not to walk, and some children’s activities.
They also have carnival type rides and games available on the weekend for an extra fee. Another weekend bonus is the wooden shoe making demonstration. My kids absolutely loved this and even got a chance to work on one of the shoes themselves.
Nature has a way of doing things on its own time so if you’re hoping to catch the festival during peak bloom I recommend that you follow their Facebook page or visit their website. They post field reports on both and remember, don’t pick the flowers!
Happy Spring!
